Shooting events such as parties, exhibitions, concerts, fashion shows or weddings can be tricky. Unlike being in a studio, you are limited to work with the location's available light such as the stage spotlights or the venue's ambient lighting. There will also be several activities occurring simultaneously. Getting caught by surprise and missing significant moments are terrible mishaps for an event photographer.
