L-lens with 4-stop image stabilisation and faster AF—great for handheld portrait shooting

The EF85mm f/1.4L IS USM is a large aperture, medium telephoto lens that features a built-in image stabilisation mechanism. Capable of correcting camera shake by up to 4 shutter speed stops, the lens is suitable for handheld portrait photography, which requires a higher degree of mobility.

The AF is driven by a ring USM, which enables the lens to meet the expectations for faster, speedier AF acquisition that had up to now been levied on the EF85mm f/1.2L II USM. The lens also supports full-time manual focusing.

With the addition of the EF85mm f/1.4L IS USM , there are now a total of three lenses in Canon’s stable of 85mm prime lenses, which also consists of the EF85mm f/1.8 USM (released in 1992) and the EF85mm f/1.2L II USM (released in 2006).

The new lens features a dust-proof, drip-proof design and a fluorine coating for easy wiping of stains and dirt from the lens surface.

Lens construction consists of 14 elements (including 1 aspherical lens) in 10 groups, and a 9-blade circular aperture. Minimum shooting distance is 0.85m, and filter diameter is 77mm.
